Q&A WITH KIRSTEN SWEETLAND
June 1st, 2018
After 20 years of professional experiences and knowledge in training, health & wealth our amazing ambassador Kirsten Sweetland Canadian professional triathlete is off to an exciting new Start!
What are you up to these days?
This summer I’m riding my mountain bike and gearing up to go to school for registered massage therapy in August!
Growing up, did you always know you wanted to be an elite athlete?
I wanted to be a professional triathlete since I was 8 years old! Haha strange I know
What piece of advice can you give to someone starting his/her first triathlon?
Have fun with it! The more relaxed you go into these things the smoother they tend to go. No need to get hung up on the details. Just go out there and go hard and take it all in!
What is something unusual we might not already know about you?
Haha I’m not too sure! I’m a pretty open book 🙂
What has been your favourite part of competing at an elite level?
Travelling the world and getting to experience other cultures on a level that’s different than being a tourist. Living in other countries for long periods of time has given me perspective and also made me appreciate my home that much more as well!
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
Returning from a 5 year stint of injury and getting back on the World Series podium made me pretty proud!
How do you overcome setbacks?
I learned over time that doing everything necessary to have a successful recovery while simultaneously relaxing and going with the flow tends to have the best outcome. Having friends and interests outside of the sport makes relaxing that much easier too 🙂What’s next for you?
I’m moving on into the working world as a massage therapist! Still learning to go big on a mountain bike but I’ve decided to step back from the competitive side of sport and just do it for the joy of it. So far I’ve been really happy with this!
